Jan’s work is inspired by the hot landscapes of Africa. She paints the movement and the form created by the animals, be it individual big cats or herds of zebra racing through the wilderness. Her last two exhibitions in London and New York were complete sell out shows. She creates texture on the canvas by allowing the paint to dry quickly with a layer of varnish to cause a crackle glaze finish. Using this technique and layers of gold leaf, Jan manages to convey the warmth and dryness of the bush.
